Day 1
Fly to Toronto
Arrive into Toronto and transfer to your hotel independently (we find the UP train the quickest and easiest way to get into the city)
Day 2
Toronto to Midland (99 miles)
You ‘ll probably be up early due to the time difference, so we suggest you stroll out to enjoy a full Canadian breakfast and perhaps see a few of the sights – we can book you admission to the CN Tower or Ice Hockey Hall of Fame. Then you can pick up your hire car and head out of the city for the short drive to Georgian Bay and the town of Midland. You could visit the Wye March Wildlife Centre which has some lovely nature trails and kayak tours.
Day 3
Midland – Huntsville (85 miles)
This morning you’ll be driving into “cottage country” – a beautiful lake region where the wealthy city-dwellers of Ontario own holiday cottages. Here you can enjoy swimming, kayaking, hiking and biking, with so many trails and lakes to choose from. There are plenty of outdoor pursuits to choose from in and around Huntsville, so depending on your family’s preference you can either find a lake nearby to relax on the beach, swim and enjoy watersports, or hire some bikes and follow a cycling trail. There is also treetop trekking, golf and horse riding. Arrowhead Provincial Park is just a short drive, where you will find hiking trails, rental canoes, places to swim and bike hire. You’ll be checking in to your hotel for a two night stay.
Day 4
Huntsville - Algonquin Provincial Park - Huntsville
It’ll take about half an hour to reach the stunningly beautiful Algonquin Provincial Park, where the only way to explore is by kayak or on foot. We suggest you drive straight to the Visitor Centre at 43km on Highway 60, where you will find details of all the activities on offer. There is a canoe route network covering 1300 miles and the clear lakes of the park offer endless opportunities for swimming. There are numerous hiking trails, all graded so you can either do an hours easy stroll or spend a few hours on a more strenuous trail on which you’ll be rewarded with great views. There are 260 species of bird to spot, beavers in various ponds and in May you might see moose who are attracted to the roadside by the salt.
Day 5
Huntsville – Gatineau Park – Ottawa (217 miles)
Head off early this morning towards Gatineau Park where you can enjoy vast areas of bicycle paths and gorgeous views from look-outs over the river before. Once your energy is spent, continue your drive eastbound to the charming city of Ottawa. Check into your hotel and then we’d recommend a wander around Byward Market where you will find a fantastic choice of restaurants, cafes, bars and boutique shops.
Day 6
Ottawa – Tremblant (95 miles)
There are some brilliant museums to visit in Ottawa, as well as the Canadian Parliament. It really is a charming city, with the park-lined Rideau Canal and Ottawa River running through it’s centre, making it a pleasant place to explore on foot or by bike. In the afternoon, it’s a pleasant couple of hours drive into the Province of Quebec and the resort of Mont Tremblant, where you will be staying for two nights. With the same designers as the award-winning mountain resort of Whistler, Tremblant is a lovely pedestrianised year-round resort, offering skiing and snowsports in winter, and myriad activities in the summer months.
Day 7
Mont Tremblant
A day to enjoy the lovely family-friendly resort of Tremblant, where you can choose from a wide variety of fun activities from white-water rafting to zip-lining. Take the gondola to the top of the mountain to enjoy hiking or biking. Check out the Mont Tremblant Activity Centre to see everything on offer.
Day 8
Tremblant – Quebec City (230 miles)
Time to head further into Quebec, and today you’ll be driving along the Chemin du Roy of the mighty St Lawrence River to Quebec City – North Americas only walled-city. We love the French influences in this historic place, with charming cafes and bistros. Check into your hotel for a two night stay.
Day 9
Quebec City
A hop-on hop-off bus tour is a great way to get your bearings and learn about the history of this important city. Enjoy a crepe and a café au lait on a stroll around the old town. Visit the imposing le Chateau Frontenac for afternoon tea, visit the Musee de la Civilisation and wander Battlefields Park.
Day 10
Quebec City – St. Alexis-des-Monts (119 miles)
Leave the city limits and drive into the open spaces of the Quebec countryside, your destination is area of St Alexis-des-Monts. You’ll be staying at either the rustic Pourvoirie du Lac Blanc or the Auberge du Lac-a-L'Eau Claire sitting on the edge of Lac a l'Eau Clare for two nights, a rustic lodge overlooking the stunning lake.
Day 11
St. Alexis-des-Monts
A day to enjoy the tranquility and natural surroundings of your resort hotel. Take to the lake and go canoeing, kayaking or simply relax at your private beach (optional activities not included).
Day 12
St. Alexis-des-Monts – Montreal (92 miles)
Today drive back into the St Lawrence River valley to the vibrant city of Montreal. A great place for shopping so you can stock up on all your favourite Canadian brands such as Lululemon, MAC and Aldo. You can also visit the old town, the Olympic Park, the Botanical Gardens and the renowned Montreal Museum of Fine Art. We advise to visit Notre-Dame Basilica, the Biodome and the underground city.
Day 13
Montreal – Rockport - Kingston (179 miles)
Journey south west to the Thousand Islands National Park. We suggest you stop off at the lovely village of Rockport for an hours cruise of the Thousand Islands, which is a lovely way to see the gorgeous countryside and swanky mansions situated on many of the islands. Continue to Kingston, located where the St Lawrence River meets Lake Ontario for an overnight stay.
Day 14
Kingston – Niagara Falls (244 miles)
It’s a four hour drive to Niagara Falls, so you might want an early start today so that you can arrive by lunchtime. Included in the holiday price is a Hornblower Niagara Cruise – Voyage to the Falls, which is a great experience. Make sure you wear the waterproof ponchos provided as you’re going to get a bit damp! There are lots of other activities in the resort of Niagara, including a waterpark and a zipline. Whilst the falls themselves are a spectacular sight not-to-be-missed, the town of Niagara is not what you’d call picturesque. However just down the road is the really lovely town of Niagara-on-the-Lake. Perhaps you could visit for an early evening stroll and dinner tonight, or you could stop off tomorrow on your way back to the airport.
Day 15
Niagara Falls – Toronto Airport (80 miles)
Depending on your flight time, you could drive via Niagara-on-the-Lake, a charming town on Lake Ontario, filled with independent shops, cafes and restaurants. Then drop off your hire car and fly home.
